The Delta State Police Command has arrested a young man who reportedly butchered his father and stole his money to organise a birthday party for his girlfriend.
The suspect, who was simply identified as Ifeanyi, allegedly committed the heinous crime against his father, Sunny, in Enerhen, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that Ifeanyi had confessed to killing his father in the instructions of a cult group he belonged to.
After killing his father, the suspect fled and hid in a hotel on OilField Road, where police from the Enerhen Division arrested him.
Ifeanyi had reportedly butchered his father while he slept on Thursday, mutilated his body and stole the proceeds of of a land the deceased sold before absconding.
The painful screams of the deceased attracted neighbours who came and, seeing him in the pool of his own blood, rushed him to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
A search party by the neighbours on Sunday found the suspect in a hotel where he had lodged with two girls, after organising a birthday party for his girlfriend.
The remains of the deceased were deposited in the mortuary by the police who are yet to issue official statement on the matter.
