The police have arrested a woman suspect for allegedly trafficking in children in Benue State.
The Benue State Police Command also rescued 11 victims from the suspect in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.
The suspect, who was identified as Priscilia Mhiive Terhemen, hails from Mbachir community in Katsina-Ala, but was accused of trafficking the children from Benue to Benin, the Edo State capital.
The freed children comprised: Iwuese Terkimbi (5), Sulma Terhemen (7), Sechiur Orsuyi (8), Sunday Mlumum (20), Nguveren Sunday (15), Doose Mwaave (12), Ternenge Wuave (11), Mnena Terhemen (16), Aondonengen Terkimbir (12), Nensha Terhemen (10), and Saakuma Terhemen (13).
Indigenes of Benue State residing in Edo State reportedly assisted in the recovery of the victims, aged between five and 20 years, and their subsequent repatriation to their hometown in Benue.
According to sources close to the police, the the suspect is in custody but the victims have been documented while the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, has commenced a full-scale probe into the incident.
