How gunmen attacked three Imo communities, killed seven

Gunmen have again struck in Imo State, killing seven persons during an invasion of three communities.

The attack occurred in Umualoma, Ndiakunwanta and Ndiejezie in Arondizogu, Ideato North Local Government Area of the state.

The yet to be identified attackers, who came on a motorbike, shot at their victims, mostly shop owners, their customers, and passersby
killing seven people and many more with critical injuries.

The victims were reportedly having a good time at beer parlours when the invaders swooped on them, shooting sporadically at anyone in sight as they ride past in motorcycle.

“The people who died were in different bars drinking, or were the people selling and attending to their customers,” one source disclosed.

“I heard they also shot at people who were playing a draft game to while away time. As I speak to you, about 12 people are lying dead, and many are critically injured due to running to seek safety.”

Henry Okoye, the spokesman of the State Police Command, confirmed the attack in a statement, saying while seven people were killed, several others were wounded.

No reason has been adduced to the attack, as the identities of the attackers are yet to be unravelled.
