The Labour Party is about to convene a National Executive Council, NEC, meeting to recommend the expulsion of its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
This was on Tuesday disclosed by Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, during an appearance on the Channels Television’s Morning Brief.
He clarified that Obi had previously been placed on suspension but still went ahead with activities he adjudged to be anti-party activities.
“You don’t join a political party and still keep your leg in another party. He knows it is unconstitutional to belong to two political parties at the same time,” the publicity scribe said.
“They have succeeded in luring him to their side, and there he shall remain.”
Consequently, Arabambi added that the party’s NEC would soon meet to formally recommend Obi’s expulsion, which would then be confirmed at its national convention in accordance with the Labour Party constitution.
“When we want to expel any member, who acts contrary to our constitution, the NEC makes the recommendation, and final approval is given at the convention,” Arabambi stated.
“So, Obi will be expelled from our party; he is no longer a member of the Labour Party.”
