Air Force bombs terrorists logistics base, kill many, as troops arrest bandit planning to attack Plateau community

Nigerian Air Force, NAF, fighter jets have pounded the logistics base of terrorists near the Mandara Mountains in Borno State, killing scores of them.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF spokesman, disclosed that the strikes were conducted on Sunday, July 6, following confirmed Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions at a locstion long known as “fortified enclaves” for the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS), a faction of Boko Haram.

“The locations, known for their rugged, mountain-covered terrain along Nigeria’s border with Cameroon, had recently witnessed increased terrorist activity, including reports of a logistics build-up and the presence of senior JAS Commanders,” Ejafome said.

“The strikes followed confirmatory Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance missions revealing clusters of structures fitted with solar panels, black flags, and fortified compounds, clear signs of insurgent resurgence and preparations for coordinated attacks.

“In response, NAF strike aircraft executed a series of well-coordinated air interdictions, targeting and destroying high-value terrorist infrastructure, including logistics warehouses, command centres, and defensive shelters.

“Several terrorists were neutralised in the operation, effectively disrupting their supply chain and diminishing their capability to sustain further offensives.”

In another development, Nigerian troops on Sunday arrested a suspected bandit while planning to attack unsuspecting commuters in the Gashish District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The suspect was intercepted while in an ambush position along the Kafi Abu-Rakwok Road.

According to Major Samson Zhakom, the Spokesman for Operation Safe Haven, who confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, a fabricated AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition were revovered from the suspect.

He added that the suspect is currently in the custody of the troops alongside the recovered weapons and ammunition for further investigation.

“On July 6, 2025, troops of 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven on night patrol along Kafi Abu-Rakwok Road in Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State intercepted a suspected militia,” the statement read.

“The suspect was arrested while in ambush position with possible intent of attacking unsuspecting commuters in the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and 30 rounds of 7.62 mm (special) ammunition.

“The suspect and recovered weapon and ammunition are in the custody of troops for further action. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to conduct follow-up operations to intercept other members of the criminal syndicate.

“Troops of 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven are intensifying operations against the use of firearms by unauthorised individuals to disrupt the security of the Joint Operations Area.

“We, therefore, urge the public to continually furnish troops with actionable information to carry out the operations successfully, while also addressing the challenge of proliferation of arms.”
