Fubara, Tinubu and Wike

President Bola Tinubu is set to reinstate Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended Rivers State governor, in office.
This follows a peace deal between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory wherein the warring duo settled their rift and declared there’s no more war between them.
President Tinubu on Thursday brokered the deal at the presidential villa, with pictures circulating showing both of them in joyous mood.
Confirming an end to their political rift, Wike said: “We have all agreed to work together with the governor, and the governor also agreed to work together with all of us. We are members of the same political family.
“Yes, just like humans, you have a disagreement, and then you also have time to settle your disagreement and that has been finally concluded today, and we have come to report to Mr. President, that is what we have agreed. So for me, everything is over.”
He urged his supporters to work with Fubara is eventually reinstated as the governor at the end of the emergency rule that was imposed on the state because of their differences.
“I enjoin everybody who believes to work with us, to also work together with to also work together with everybody, that there’s no more acrimony. There’s nothing to say,” he said.
Embattled Fubara also confirmed that his beef with his predecessor and godfather has come to an end.
He equally tasked his supporters to work for peace.
“For me, it’s a day we have to thank Almighty God. For me, it’s very important that this day has come,” Fubara said.
“What we need for the progress of Rivers State is peace, and by the special grace of God, this night, with the help of Mr. President and the agreement of the leaders of the state, our leader, peace has returned in Rivers State. We’ll do everything within our power to make sure that we sustain it this time around.”
There are speculations, however, that the deal did not favour Fubara, as it reportedly barred him from seeking a second term in office as well as ceding control of all the local governments to Wike.
It will be recalled that Wike and Fubara had wrestled in a protracted battle over who would control the structures of Rivers State. The bitter struggle which had taken a violent turn left to a declaration of a state of emergency in the state by President Bola Tinubu.
