The report which is the outcome of the investigation conducted by Indian authority into the incident revealed that the pilot’s seat slid backwards while taking off which caused the captain’s hands to mistakenly pull the throttle levers to idle.
This resulted in the sudden loss of thrust by the engine of the aircraft to lift it causing it to crash into a nearby building housing medical workers killing 241 out of the 242 on board, including the two captains and the hostesses.
The report further revealed that the co-pilot’s attempt to regain control was blocked by the captain’s reclined position when his seat slid backward.
The Investigators further stated that the aircraft lacked key safety features in it’s 787’s throttle system, such as reverse-motion protection and weight-based lockouts. The full report will.however be released in July.
