North has solution to Nigeria’s problem  – Obi

Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has said the north could be the answer to Nigeria’s problems.

The former Anambra governor said while a cross-section of Northern Nigeria leaders under the aegis of the National Political Consultative Group, the is the future huge asset of the country.

The gathering had many prominent northerners in attendance, including
former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Obi noted that poverty is the root cause of criminality and insecurity in the North, adding that the region must invest in education, which he said is the easiest way to tackle poverty.

He urged the North to jettison it penchant for voting for religion and tribe in the past; and consider competence and capacity in the next dispensation.

The presidential hopeful noted that trust is important among Nigerians to be able to tackle the multifaceted problems and steer the country away from ethnic and religious sentiments.

He described Kano as the strength of the North and recalled that the city was the place bankers used to go for cash, lamenting, however, that all the industries in Kano had closed shop.

He cited some successful agrarian countries, such as Bangladesh, the Netherlands and posited that northern Nigeria has more potential than all these countries but but for lack of good governance, good policies and implementation.Abubakar Malami, the immediate past  Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, had in a keynote Speech earlier, lamented the deplorable security situation in the North and called for urgent steps to remedy the situation and sav the region from drifting.
