Alex Otti, the Abia State Governor has rubbished speculations that he has plans to leave the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying the rumours false, baseless and unfounded.

The governor said in a statement issued by his special adviser on media and publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, his meeting with Hope Uzodimma of Imo State at the National Economic Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, which fueled the rumour was misrepresented.

“After the National Economic Council meeting on Thursday, April 24, Governor Otti and a few of his colleagues joined Governor Uzodinma to attend the birthday celebration of his twin daughters, an event that had nothing to do with politics,” the statement read.

Ekeoma posited that Otti’s rising profile and performance might have given rise to the speculation of a possible defection to APC but insisted that nothing like that was on the cards.

He added that the governor was more concerned about delivering his promises to the people of Abia State than being distracted  the politics of 2027.

“We wish to emphatically state that Governor Otti remains a member of the Labour Party and is presently not planning or discussing with anyone to defect to the APC or any other party,” the reiterated.
