The operatives of the Imo State Police Command have apprehended two two female suspects over alleged kidnapping and attempting to sell a four-year-old boy in Owerri, the state capital.
The suspects, who were identified as Joy Ugwu from Idah, Kogi State and Rosella Michael from Zamba in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, were caught in Owerri the victim, Jaffa Umar.
DSP Henry Okoye, the Command’s spokesperson, in a
press statement, disclosed that the operatives of the Scorpion Unit of the Command, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted the suspects.
He added that investigations revealed that the suspects kidnapped the boy in Abuja while hawking vegetables and brought to Owerri.
They were were negotiating to sell him for N2.7 million before their arrest while a third accomplice, believed to be a nurse, is currently on the run.
Okoye further said the boy has been safely reunited with his family through coordinated efforts between the State Police Command and Zone 7 Police Headquarters, Abuja, while the suspects have been transferred to the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID), Abuja for further investigation and prosecution.
Aboki Danjuma, the State Police Commissioner, has reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and dismantling trafficking networks.
He also urged residents to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the emergency line 0803 477 3600.
