Natasha beats all odds, arrives constituency in helicopter, received by mammoth crowd

Against all odds, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Tuesday defied the the state government’s attempt to stop her from coming home to meet with her constituents.

The embattled lawmaker, who is currently serving a controversial six month suspension from the Senate made a dramatic entry into   the venue in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, using a helicopter.

She was warmly received by a rapturous mammoth crowd of supporters, who had waited patiently for her, wielding placards and chanting solidarity slogans.

In efforts to abort her homecoming, the state government on Monday banned all public gatherings in the state, citing security concerns. This was reechoed by the police on Tuesday, waring the lawmaker against her homecoming.

However, Akpoti-Uduaghan had insisted on holding the Sallah celebrations with her constituents, warning that Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello should be held responsible if anything  untoward happens at the event.

Writing on verified Facebook page, the lawmaker had said: “My dear people of Kogi Central, I look forward to our PEACEFUL Sallah celebrations today. However, should we be met with or infiltrated by violence, Nigerians should hold Gov Ododo, Yahaya Bello & SP Godswill Akpabio wholly responsible.”

She remained resolute and rubbished rumours that she had canceled the trip, and urged her supporters to disregard the fake information.

True to her word,  the Senator arrived in grand style to the warm embrace of an unprecedented, excited crowd.

 Akpoti-Uduaghan is embroiled in a running battle with the Senate, which slammed a six-month suspension on her over alleged “gross misconduct” soon after a disagreement over seating arrangement, and accusing Akpabio of sexually harassing her.

True to her word, the senator a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is currently serving a six-month suspension from the Senate for allegedly violating legislative rules. Additionally, she faces a potential recall, allegedly backed by figures from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akpoti-Uduaghan has been at the center of several controversies, including a recent accusation against Akpabio of sexual harassment.
