However, the manager reported seeing only one of the young men, Johnson, while the other, Clement, was not present. When the manager later checked the room, he found it locked from the outside, and Clement had reportedly left through the back door.
When Owhe entered the room, he found Ogofadar had died but failed to raise alarm.
He even lied to the wife of the deceased and relations, who came to inquire about the man, telling them that he did not know his whereabouts, as he had already checked out.

However, Owhe later confessed to the details surrounding the murder after he was arrested.

He revealed that the two young men told him they wanted to retrieve something from Mr. Ogofadar, promising to give him N5 million if they succeeded in their mission.

“After about an hour, I checked on the man and found him dead. I saw Johnson while Clement left through the back door. I became afraid and told my boss that it smelled like someone had died in the hotel,” Owhe said.

“I ran to a woman’s house to spend the night. The next morning, I came out to see how the situation had been handled, and that was when the vigilante group and community members attacked me.”

He further revealed that Chief Ugwale, the hotel’s owner, who is his uncle reported the incident to the vigilante group.

According to him, he had known the two young men since 2013 when they brought a girl to the hotel and paid him N300,000, adding that he had not seen the girl since then.
