A tragic domestic incident in Ado-Ekiti has left the community in shock after a Nigerian police officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Leramo Caleb, lost his life, following a violent altercation with his wife.
According to sources close to the situation, the dispute between the couple had been brewing for months due to allegations of infidelity. Reports indicate that ASP Caleb had earlier this year arrested a man with whom his wife was allegedly having an affair, an action that significantly escalated tensions in their marriage.
The Nigerian Police Force confirmed the deaths of both ASP Caleb and his wife on Tuesday, stating that the incident occurred in the Ita-Eku area along Igirigiri Road in Ado-Ekiti. A source who spoke to SaharaReporters revealed that Caleb was a dedicated officer, known for his commitment to duty. However, his marital troubles took a dark turn after he caught his wife in an extramarital affair and attempted to take legal action against her lover.
At the police station, Caleb was reportedly advised to focus on resolving issues with his wife rather than arresting her alleged lover. Unfortunately, this advice did little to ease the growing discord in their relationship.
Following the arrest, Caleb’s marriage reportedly became increasingly strained, with frequent disputes arising between him and his wife. According to the source, the officer’s frustration over the betrayal led to continuous conflicts, which were never fully resolved. “He was a brave and courageous officer, one of the best police prosecutors around,” the source said.
“After his transfer to Oye-Ekiti, we met again, and though we didn’t discuss his family issues, I later learned through a close friend that his marriage had been troubled since the arrest incident.”
The situation reached a deadly climax on Tuesday when ASP Caleb reportedly fell victim to a brutal attack by his wife. Unverified reports suggest that she may have drugged his food, leaving him incapacitated before taking the drastic step of severing his manhood.
The gruesome nature of the attack has left many in disbelief, with residents struggling to comprehend what could have led to such a violent act. However, in a desperate final act of retaliation, Caleb allegedly summoned the last of his strength and fought back, ultimately leading to his wife’s death as well.
The police authorities are yet to make an official statement on whether any prior reports of domestic violence existed between the couple, but the case serves as a grim reminder of the potential dangers lurking in troubled marriages.
