The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, Awka, has expelled one of its female students for allegedly assaulting a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.
The affected student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, over her attacked the lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, for interrupting her while recording a TikTok video on campus.
The video of the assault gained traction when it trended online, sparking varied comments.
The student did not only attack the lecturer, she also bit him on the arm and tore his clothes even though the teacher maintained a calm pose.
However, in slamming the expulsion on the female student in a letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Victor I. Modebelu, the university stated that the Student Disciplinary Committee found the student’s actions to be a gross violation of the institution’s disciplinary regulations, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR) and recommended her expulsion.
Her expulsion took immediate effect and she was directed to vacate the premises and return any university property in her possession.
The official letter read, “The Ag. Vice-Chancellor has received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee on the case of your assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, which was found to be a gross misconduct and violation of the Students Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).
“Consequently, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the Committee’s recommendation that you be expelled, and you are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The expulsion takes immediate effect. You are expected to vacate the University premises immediately and return any University property in your possession.”
Recall that Dr. Michael was reportedly trying to pass by while the student was filming a TikTok video in a faculty corridor.
He had tapped her shoulder and said, “Excuse me,” but she became upset and accused him of hitting her. The situation escalated into a physical confrontation, with the student grabbing the lecturer’s clothes as onlookers intervened.
It was also reported that the lecturer, suspecting that he was being recorded, demanded the video be deleted, which made the 300-level History and International Studies student and the daughter of an Engineering lecturer at the university, to allegedly bite him on both arms.
