A man who was driving an SUV has cheated death after a passenger train rammed into his car in Layton, Utah.
The near death moment was captured in a video which has gone viral. The train which belonged to a Utah Transit Authority, UTAH, was getting closer towards a railroad crossing when the car the man was driving, a white SUV, partially blocked the track.
The train operator blasted his horn and was shouting to the SUV driver”Oh, come on,” while nearing the spot. The video showed the train finally slammed into the vehicle, causing a loud thump which reverberated from inside the train and around the area.
Security cameras nearby showed that moments before the incident, the driver of the SUV was hit behind by a white pick-up as it was approaching the red light which was flashing,.signalling it to stop.
The push from behind made the SUV continue and cross onto the tracks prompting the driver to slam the brakes which brought the car to a stop in between the two rails.
Attempts to leave the track with the vehicle as the train was approaching yielded no results as the gate arm refuses to open for the car to pass.
Though the driver continued to reverse but the gate arm refused to open back. With the train just few metres away, the driver quickly exited the car and walks away seconds before the train approaches the intersection and smashes into the vehicle, sending it spinning into the gate arm and its post, and completely destroying the front end of the SUV.
The information officer for KSLTV in Salt Lake City, Gavin Gustafson, said those involved were fortunate to have escaped without injuries.
The station reported that UTAH estimates the collision caused over $100,000 in damage to the train.
