Drama as police arrest married woman for arranging soldiers to beat up lover who dumped her, demands N2m compensation

Ujunwa was said to have maintained her relationship with Emmanuel despite being married with a child.

For her, it was love by force, as she was aggrieved that Bright suddenly jilted her since she was already married and had a child without compensating her.

However, when Bright called her bluff, she allegedly took three soldiers and invaded his house at Young Shall Grow Street, Kudeyinbu Estate, in Ijegun area of Lagos where they beat him to stupor and said to have forcefully withdrew N1.5m from his account as well as collecting his gold earrings worth $300,000 and threatened to return for the N500000 balance.

However, Bright lodged a complaint against her at the Police at Isheri Oshun Division and and she was consequently arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.

It was gathered that she reportedly confessed to committing the offence, saying Bright jilted and refused to compensate her despite her demands.

Following her interrogation, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for alleged conspiracy, conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and stealing.Part of the charges read:

”That you, Ruby Ujunwa Okafor and three others now at large, on the same date, time and place at the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal and transferred the sum of N1,500,000.00, from UBA bank of name Nwaigwe Emmanuel Bright with account number 2092351129 into your Access Diamond Bank with account number 0106478788 Ujunwa Chidimma Okafor and two gold earrings valued at $300,000.00 belonging to one Nwaigwe Emmanuel ‘M’, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 criminal law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.”

The suspect pleaded not guilty.

Thereafter, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, the prosecutor,  asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was subsequently adjourned till February 19, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded at correctional center in Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the perfection of her bail conditions.
