A clash between security personnel and residents of Rimin Zakara village in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State has resulted in the deaths of three people.
Kano Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, told newsmen on Monday in Kano that the incident occurred on Sunday night during the demolition of illegal structures by a government team, which was resisted by the community.
The dispute revolved around a parcel of land claimed by Bayero University Kano which had requested government intervention to stop encroachment by the villagers.
There was a confrontation between security personnel that accompanied the demolition team and the villagers as the team moved in to remove the structures.
He told newsmen that the state government had announced plans to set up a high-powered committee to investigate the incident. (NAN)
