The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has stated that the Federal Government’s preparedness to welcome deported Nigerians from the United States.
Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Director of Media and Corporate Affairs, revealed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is handling the situation.
According to The Punch, a committee has been established, comprising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NiDCOM, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the office of the National Security Adviser, to address potential mass deportations.
According to a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement document, approximately 3,690 Nigerians in the US face deportation due to Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants.
The document, dated November 24, 2024, lists 1,445,549 non-citizens with final removal orders. Mexico and El Salvador top the list, with 252,044 and 203,822 individuals facing deportation, respectively.
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is responsible for protecting America from cross-border crime and illegal immigration.
Recently, hundreds of migrants were arrested, and others were flown out of the country on military aircraft as part of Trump’s mass deportation operation.
Nigerians and other African illegal immigrants in the US may be targeted next for deportation.
