Shock as police arrest four in Anambra for setting woman ablaze in wheelchair

The Abagana area of Anambra State were shocked when news broke that the

operatives of Abagana Divisional Police Headquarters of the the State Police Command on Sunday, arrested four suspects for allegedly setting ablaze a 74-year-old woman in a wheelchair at the town.
The suspects includes one female, Chinenye Ekwenugo, 21, from Ifitedunu, and three other male suspects, who were identified as Uzochukwu Okeke, 47; Fidel Anayo, 60, and Ikenna Anene, 54, who hail from Abagana.
The charred remains of the septuagenarian, the wheelchair, and a coffin were recovered by the police operatives.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson in a statement said: “During interrogations, the suspect, Chinenye, confessed that her boyfriend, one Ifeanyi Igwe, who is currently at large, and three others set the victim ablaze and got a casket to bury her before the intervention of the security operatives.”

He added that the remains of the deceased had been deposited in the morgue for autopsy and further probe of the cause of the death.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, had sued for calm and ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the command for a comprehensive investigation.
