The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a woman in the Gbonogun area of Abeokuta, Ogun State for allegedly stabbing her husband to death over his suspected adulterous relationship with another woman.
The 22-year-old suspect, one Iyanu Adedeji, allegedly killed her husband of eight years, Funsho Jimoh, during a fight, following the woman’s allegation that the deceased was engaged in an extramarital affairs.
It was gathered that the mother of two reportedly stabbed the victim in the chest with a kitchen knife, resulting in his death.
Omolola Odutola, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the tragedy on Monday, adding that the suspect on realizing the enormity of her action, rushed the man to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, where he was confirmed dead.
Thereafter, she reported herself alongside the corpse of her dead husband to the police.
“On December 30, 2024, at about 12:15 PM, one Iyann Adedeji, a 22-year-old female residing at No. 3 Ifelodun Street, Unity Estate, Gbonagun, reported to the police station with a vehicle containing the body of her husband, Azeez Funsho Jimoh, a 28-year-old male who also lived at the same address,” Odutola.
“According to her, the deceased was her husband of eight years, with two children, one of whom is deceased.
“She stated that the deceased accused her of having an extramarital affair, leading to a physical altercation between them that morning.
“During the scuffle, the suspect allegedly inflicted a wound on the deceased’s chest with a domestic knife.”
The police spokesperson further disclosed that the suspect had been arrested while a preliminary investigation is underway, adding that the case will soon be transferred to the SCID for a more thorough investigation.
Lanre Ogunlowo, the state Commissioner of Police, however, cautioned couples to always resolve their differences amicably instead of engaging in violence.
