Sule Lamido, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has criticised former President Muhammadu Buhari and his successor, Bola Tinubu of not telling Nigerians the truth about the state of the country’s economy.

Lamido, who is also  a former Governor of Jigawa State accused Buhari of using propaganda to deceive Nigerians, a method he said President Tinubu has also adopted.

According to him, the president is not being transparent with Nigerians about the true state of the nation under his watch.

Speaking on the BBC Hausa programme, ‘Gane Mini Hanya’, Lamido spoke likened the APC government to the PDP’s, which he said was transparent to the people while in power.

“Buhari’s and Tinubu’s governments are not being transparent with Nigerians unlike during the time when PDP was in power where everything was transparent and open to all Nigerians. With the coming of Buhari, deception and propaganda became tools for running the government,” he said

He also questioned the rationale behind President Tinubu’s requests for loans, positing that the country is generating more money and, therefore, out of sync with his incessant demands for loan.

Lamido described the Tinubu administration as lacking in financial management, adding that it is reckless in spending and ‘selfish’.

“If Nigerians are being told the truth then there is nothing wrong with that, but how would you budget N30 trillion, generate N50 trillion and then request a loan when you have a surplus of N20 trillion?” he queried.

“This recklessness and clear-cut selfishness is not done anywhere in the world, but yet you find (some) Nigerians supporting it. Visit social media and see how APC is being criticised, being referred to as calamity, yet you find some protecting it.”
