The Katsina State Government has set up an ad hoc committee for the prevention and resolution of conflicts between herders and farmers in the state.
The ad-hoc committee is headed by Alhaji Salisu Abdu, the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet and Security, governor’s Office.
Alhaji Abdullahi Garba-Faskari, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), who inaugurated the committee said: ”This is a very sensitive issue. We saw the need for the committee to monitor these activities so as to avert any negative consequences or situation in our society”.
He enjoined the members to sensitise the people to imbibe peace and harmonious coexistence between herders and farmers, and also to ensure that herders not hindered from peaceful movement.
According to the SSG, the committee would also work in collaboration with local government councils, traditional institutions and the Fulani cultural associations, on how to prevent farmers/herders clash.
