Abia Police confirm killing of officer in ambush as Commissioner leads rescue operation for two others

The Abia State Police Command has confirmed that one of its officers, identified as ASP Edet Udoulo was killed in  an ambush mounted by hoodlums in the Ohafia axis of the state on Wednesday.

The Command in a press release issued on Wednesday night by its spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka,

also disclosed that,  Danladi Isa, the state Commissioner of Police, personally led a rescue operation to the area and successfully rescued two other affected officers.
According to the press release, the hoodlums fled the scene when they could not withstand the firepower of the police officers, who repelled the attack.

“During the operation led by the CP, ASP Etim Obungha was successfully rescued unhurt,” the press release revealed.

“Corporal Chukwu Odoemelam, who sustained bullet injury during the attack, was promptly rushed to the hospital and is currently responding to treatment.

“Tragically, the body of ASP Etet Uboulo who did not survive the earlier attack was recovered.

“In the course of the operation, some exhibits were recovered from the crime scene and investigation is ongoing with the view to tracking down the hoodlums.

“Watertight security measures have been emplaced as tactical teams, operatives from Ohafia Area Command in collaboration with the army component from 14 Brigade, Ohafia are currently on patrol in the area.”

The press release further noted that CP Isa has assured the residents of Abia State of the determination of the police to apprehend perpetrators of the heinous crime and bring them to book.

However, he also appealed to the public not to hesitate to report any suspicious person with bullet wounds or strange vehicles to the nearest Police Station.
