Three suspects in the murder of a commercial motorcyclist, popularly called Okada, in Kwara State have have confessed how they beheaded the deceased and stole his motorcycle
The trio, who was on Wednesday paraded by Victor Olaiya, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, included Peter Samuel, Jeremiah Tiozinda and Sunday Agbenke.
They were arrested by the Kwara State Police Command in the Asunlere area of Oke Oyi, Ilorin.
Peter Samuel, one of the suspects, disclosed that he was contacted by the ringleader, Sunday Agbenke.
He said: “I was called by Agbenke. He told me about an Okada rider, who usually gave him rides and had recently bought a new bike. He suggested we kill him and steal the bike. He told me that after we stole the bike, we could sell it and make a lot of money. That’s how we got ourselves into this big trouble.
“When we tried to carry out the plan, we couldn’t take the bike because we encountered a vigilante group on our way. We abandoned the bike and ran into the bush.
“The Okada rider had taken us to Oloru. On our way back, one of my companions dropped his slipper. When I went to pick it up, my brother hit the rider on the head with a plank. The rider fell down, and I used a cutlass to behead him.”
However, the CP said residents of the Asunlere community reported the discovery of a headless body near a stream in the area to the police.
On arriving at the scene, the police found an Itel Android phone, which was later traced to one of the suspects, Peter.
Consequently, this led to his arrest and that of others at different locations.
The stolen motorcycle was also recovered from the suspects, following further investigations.
“Photographic evidence was captured, revealing a significant mark of violence around the neck, indicating that the head was severed,” Olaiya said.
Upon interrogation, the suspects reportedly owned up to the crime.
Peter allegedly told the police that the severed head was thrown into a nearby river.
The CP further revealed that the body of the slain okadaman was evacuated and deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital mortuary, pending an autopsy while efforts are ongoing to recover the missing head.
