An entirely different new terrorist group has emerged in the North.
Raising the alarm, the Sokoto State Government identified the group as LAKURAWAS.

Idris Gobir, the Deputy Governor of the state, made the discovery known during a meeting with participants from Course 33 of the National Defence College, Abuja, who were on a study tour in Sokoto.

Throwing more light on the group,  the deputy governor clarified that it operates with a religious ideology and is equipped with advanced weaponry.

He said: “Our assessment shows that LAKURAWAS is active in about five local government areas across the state. The threat is expanding.”

However, Gobir added that security agencies are working hard to deal with this latest security challenge, adding that Sokoto State’s current collaboration with federal security forces is aimed at protecting the lives and properties of the people.

Gobir expressed hope that insights from the National Defence College study tour would help authorities understand the evolving threats and devise effective strategies for securing peace in addition to various measures the state government had implemented to address these security challenges so far.

Air Vice Marshal Titus Zuwahu Dauda, leader of the visiting delegation, after giving background on the premier military institution, stated, the team would present both oral and written reports on their observations and recommendations on how to boost security in Sokoto State.
