Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, who has been on the run for months, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, at last.
Reports reaching PanoramaNews, which confirmed by EFCC sources confirmed, said Bello was taken into custody, after a midnight sting operation in Lokoja.
However, there are also claims that Bello voluntarily surrendered himself to the anti-graft agency.
According to an EFCC source: “Bello was reportedly tracked and arrested at midnight. He is now in custody at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.”
However, Ohiare Michael, Director of Yahaya Bello’s Media Office, in a statement, insisted that the former governor, who had been placed on the wanted list, willingly appeared before the EFCC after consultation with his lawyers and family.
Recall that Bello has been on the run from the EFCC, which accused him of laundering over N80 billion belonging to Kogi State while he was governor.
