Four police officers of the Imo State Police Command, who were caught in a viral video, maltreating and extorting money from people on the road, are currently facing an orderly room trial.

Their arrest followed the allegation levelled against them by staff of Young C Entertainment, a film production outfit, who were in the state to shoot a film.

The cops were seen in a video posted online, manhandling the victims and forcing them to give out some dollars meant for the movie shoot found in their bags.

Despite explanation by victims that the dollars are not real, the police officers remained adamant and continued to harass and extort money from them.

ASP Henry Okoye, the Imo State Police Command spokesperson, said in a statement the outcome of the orderly room trial will be made public in due course.

Policemen in Imo State are notorious for extorting motorists. They could always be seen around Owerri, the Imo State capital, forcefully dispossessing people of their hard-earned money. The Owerri – Mbaise Road is one of the worst roads to ply, as gun-totting police officers brazenly carry out their unlawful act of extortion and intimidation without a care in the world.
