The police in Kano have rescued a minor from his kidnappers one of whom is his cousin.
The four-year-old, identified as Muhammad Nasir Jamilu was kidnapped by a three-man gang of kidnappers, comprising Hisbullahi Salisu, Hassan Ali Rabiu, and Hassan Aliyu.
Salisu and Rabiu, aged 30 and 28 years, respectively, are both from Yakasai Quarters, Kano, while 22-year-old Aliyu is said to be of Hotoro Quarters, also in Kano.
Salisu, a cousin to the minor, is now biting his fingers in regret, as his dream of reaping millions from the kidnap of the minor has gone up in smoke.
Meanwhile, he has allegedly confessed to the crime in which he is the prime suspect.
Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, a superintendent of Police, who is the state police spokesman, disclosed in a statement made available to newsmen in Kano on Tuesday, that Jamilu was abducted from Sharada Quarters.
He was subsequently taken to Gwarzo Town by his abductors, who demanded a ransom of ₦10 million before he would be released.
So far, the suspects had received a part payment of ₦300,000, pending when the balance would be paid.
However, the victim was rescued unharmed from captivity in Gwarzo Town, Gwarzo LGA, Kano State, by the state police surveillance team and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano for medical evaluation before he was reunited with his parents.
According to Kiyawa, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, upon receiving the report of the kidnapped minor, gave marching orders to police operatives for the immediate rescue of the victim and the arrest of the culprits, a directive that was obeyed to the letter.
The state police command lauded the Surveillance Team for their professional and prompt response, leading to the minor’s rescue.
Cases of insecurity characterised by kidnapping and ransom payment have been on the rise in Nigeria. No day hardly passes without one violent incident or another.
The safe rescue of Jamilu is one of the few lucky ones as several of such incidents resulted in the killing of the victims even after huge ransom payments had been made.
