Thirty government officials have been executed by North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un for their failure to prevent the flooding that killed 4000 people in the
Chagang Province in July, and displaced 15,000 others.
According to the TV Chosun quoting an official under Kim’s regime, the 30 leaders were charged for corruption and dereliction of duty causing the flooding and sentenced to capital punishment.
“It has been determined that 20 to 30 cadres in the flood-stricken area were executed at the same time late last month,” the official was quoted.l
While the names of the officials executed were not mentioned, the report revealed that Kang Bong-hoon, the Chagang Province Provincial Party Committee Secretary since 2019, was among the leaders dismissed by Kim in an emergency meeting during the flooding disaster.
The North Korean Central News Agency had reported that Kim ordered the officials to be “strictly punish” after the flooding incident
Kim also visited the affected province and met with residents and promised that the neighborhoods will be rebuilt though it will take several months.
