Again Police summon Ajaero, NLC scribe Ugboaja for questioning
The Police have served fresh summons to Comrade Joe Ajaero, the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, barely
a day after he honoured their first invitation for interrogation over alleged link to criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.
Ajaero, who has been invited alongside Emma Ugboaja, the General Secretary of the trade union.
The two labour leaders are expected to appear at Force Headquarters on September 5, 2024, over alleged criminal breach of trust and other sundry allegations that were not specified but are likely to cause a breach of public peace, and malicious damage to properties.
Ajaero, had yesterday honoured the police previous invite in a meeting that didn’t last more than one hour in company with human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), activists Deji Adeyanju, Maxwell Opara, and other senior NLC officials.
Speaking to journalists at the Labour House thereafter, Ajaero insisted that the NLC would neither be intimidated nor waver in its commitment to defending the rights of Nigerian workers.
He said: “We can’t be intimidated. The allegations against us are baseless, and we have nothing to hide.”
The latest invitation has raised eyebrows as people are wondering why the police are not being careful but appear desperate to pin something on the labour leader to nail him.
