The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has proposed that university admission seekers should be compelled to undergo a drug test before being admitted.
Hajia Fatima Abiola-Popoola, the Kwara State Commandant of the agency, the drug test would ‘serve as a preventive measure while offering early intervention and counseling for those already using drugs to prevent them from becoming problematic users”.
She made the recommendation while speaking on a radio programme in Olorun, Kwara State, noting that there is an increased number of drug users in the country, which needs drastic measures to address.
According to her: “A 2018 survey shows that 14.3 million people were using drugs in Nigeria. One out of seven persons in Nigeria is a drug user and one out of four drug users is a woman.
“This shows that the society is in trouble because a woman is the administrator of the home.”
