Wiped out! Family of six die after eating expired food

Residents of Karkari village, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, are grief-stricken, mourning the death of a mother and her five children at the home of the late Malam Abdulkarin.

The widow and her five children died after eating suspected expired Danwake, a traditional Hausa delicacy made of  cassava flour.

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the incident.

SP Abdullahi Haruna, the Command’s spokesperson, said the six members of the family who consumed the food were rushed to Gwarzo General Hospital where they were confirmed dead by doctors.

He said an investigation had commenced to ascertain the cause of their death.

According to Haruna: “We are still waiting for the medical report from the hospital to ascertain the cause of the death of the six persons.” 

Those who lost their lives include Alhakatu Abdulkarim and her five children; Bashir, Firdausi, Hafsat, Usman and Jamilu.
