Mr. Igiebor, the man featured in a viral video where his international passport was torn by his wife at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, has provided his account of the incident, according to Leadership.
According to Mr. Igiebor, his wife had accessed his social media account without permission and posted a video message.
He said, “My wife posted something, I know she has gone far because she is very smart. She has gone far to get the password of this page and she posted something this morning.
“Since she wants us to do it this way, we will work on it together. I believe she will get tired.”
Mr. Igiebor chose not to elaborate on the reasons behind the incident but encouraged Nigerians to view the full video for context. He noted that the video had attracted significant attention from bloggers and international media, including CNN.
“Go and watch the video; I have the full clip. You’ll see something. She did not know that I gave somebody my phone. This is something that we can solve as a family, but she is trying to push it up. No problem, I’m following her and I will tackle it, and she will get tired,” he said.
Mrs. Favour Igiebor, who was at the center of the controversy, had previously defended her actions in a video posted over the weekend.
She criticised bloggers such as Tunde Ednut and Instablog for jumping to conclusions without understanding her perspective. She expressed that she was not acting out of madness and stated that she had endured significant personal challenges.
Mrs. Igiebor hinted at deeper familial issues and expressed frustration over her husband’s control over her affairs, including her social media accounts. She indicated that her husband managed her social media page and email, and she had felt restricted by his control, which contributed to her emotional state.
Following the incident, the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has initiated a formal investigation.
The NIS confirmed that Mrs. Igiebor has been identified and invited for questioning. They noted that if her actions are found to be in violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), she could face penalties as outlined in Section 10(h) of the same Act.
The video in question, which has gone viral on social media, depicted Mrs. Igiebor tearing her husband’s passport with pieces scattered on the floor.
When confronted, she responded defiantly in Pidgin English, stating “I tore it. Is it yours?”
She was later seen leaving the scene with her children while her husband remained behind, holding a baby in a stroller.
