A professor in the Faculty of Arts, University of Benin, UNIBEN, is to face a panel to investigate the allegation of sexual harassment against him.

Mr B. D. Jonathan, the Secretary of the panel, announced its inauguration in a circular, which, however, did not disclose the identity of the lecturer involved.

It solicited relevant information from the members of staff and students or anybody that might have fallen victim to the lecturer’s escapades.

The circular said such information would assist the committee in the discharge of a thorough and fair investigation, adding: “Be assured that your identity will be protected and all information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.”

The investigative panel became inevitable, following a post on social media by a graduate of the university, who called out the lecturer.

She had recounted how she allegedly suffered untold sexual harassment from the said professor during her undergraduate days.

Cases of sexual harassment have become rampant in Nigerian universities. Currently, some university professors are on trial in courts over similar allegations, bordering on the unhealthy conduct of randy lecturers.
