Fire reportedly razes Dangote refinery
A section of Dangote Refinery located at the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos, was on Wednesday gutted by fire.
The cause of the outbreak could not be ascertained at the time of this report.
However, Anthony Chiejina, the company’s Group Head, Corporate Communications, confirmed that a minor fire occurred at the company’s effluent treatment plant but had been put under control.
“We have swiftly contained a minor fire incident at our effluent treatment plant (ETP), today Wednesday 26th of June. There is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating and there is no recorded injury or body harm to all our staff on duty,” he said.
The 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Petroleum Refinery began producing diesel and aviation fuel in January.
Explosions were heard after a major fire outbreak at the refinery located at the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
As of the time of filing this report, the Dangote group has yet to react to the fire outbreak.
Aliko Dangote, the owner of the refinery, who spoke at the Afreximbank annual meeting and AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum in the Bahamas recently, had accused a strong group of local and foreign mafia of trying to frustrate his effort at establishing the refinery, describing them as worse than drug dealers.
