Tragedy struck Ogale community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, as a family of six was discovered dead in their residence on Sunday morning, January 11, 2026.
The deceased were identified as Mr. Obele Theophilus, his wife, their children, and his brother-in-law.
According to horrified neighbours, the family retired to bed on Saturday night but failed to wake up the following morning.
Concern arose when the family’s door remained locked well past 10 a.m. After repeated knocks went unanswered, neighbours forced the door open and made the grim discovery.
Sources said Mr. Theophilus and the children were found on the bed, his wife was discovered in the bathroom, while the brother-in-law was found close to the door, suggesting he might have attempted to exit the house.
Community members revealed that the family had planned to return to Port Harcourt after the holiday before the tragic incident occurred.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of death remains unknown, with no clear details yet emerging about the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident.
