Justice James Omotosho of the Abuja Federal High Court, Abuja has convicted Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on six terrorism charges brought against him by the Federal Government.
The judge, who described Kanu as an international terrorist and anarchy-minded person, convicted him of illegally importing radio transmitter in furtherance of his pro-Biafra secessionist activities.
According to Justice Omotosho, the prosecution proved the count of illegal importation of Tram 50L radio transmitter which Kanu had planned to use for illegal operation of Radio Biafra in Nigeria in violation of section 47 of Customs and Excise Management Act.
Kanu had reportedly smuggled the Tram 50L radio transmitter into the country, masking it as used household items, and kept it in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The IPOB leader allegedly committed the offence sometimes between March and April 2015.
Mr Omotosho said the evidence of the prosecution was uncontroverted as Mr Kanu failed to offer any defence, and convicted him accordingly.
According to the judge, Kanu is an international terrorist and anarchy minded person, as depicted by his conduct, utterances and actions, such as issuing unlawful orders for the destruction of the properties of the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
The judge is expected to impose sentences on Kanu for each of the seven charges he was convicted on.
