Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 election has rubbished reports purporting that he gifted Lt. Ahmed Yerima, a brand-new Toyota SUV, for daring to challenge Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
According to the viral story social media platforms, Atiku rewarded the Yerima for his “boldness”.
However, Atiku has dismissed the claim, describing it as pure fabrication.
Paul Ibe, Atiku’s media aide in a statement on urged the public to disregard the report in its entirety.
“For the avoidance of doubt, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, Vice President of Nigeria (1999–2007), did not gift Lt. Ahmed Yerima or any other individual a brand new Toyota SUV, contrary to the false reports currently circulating on social media,” the statement read.
“The story is entirely fabricated and should be completely disregarded by the public.”
Ibe also warned the Nigerians against intentionally spreading false information with the aim of tarnishing the reputations or creating disaffection.
Recall that Yerima came into the spotlight when a video circulated online, showing him withstanding the FCT minister, during an aborted inspection of a disputed land, which the naval officer was guarding on the order of a retired former Naval Chief.
