A two-storey building collapses in the early hours of Monday in the Oyinbo area of Lagos.
The tragedy which occurred at No. 54, Cole Street, Cemetery Bus Stop, near UBA Bank, trapped many occupants under the rubble.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LSFRS, reportedly received a distress call at about 12:20 a.m. and promptly deployed emergency responders from the Sari Iganmu Fire Station, who arrived at the scen ten minutes later to commence rescue operations.
Margaret Adeseye, the LSFRS Controller General, disclosed that 15 people, comprising seven men, four women, and four children, had been rescued with varying degrees of injuries while rescue operations are ongoing.
She noted that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, working with other emergency response agencies, remains fully deployed to ensure that all affected individuals are rescued and accounted for.
Adeseye also said the victims were taken for medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute Meta and the General Hospital on Lagos Island.
It was gathered that the ill-fated building had earlier been declared structurally unsafe before it collapsed on tenants.
