President Bola Tinubu has ended the State of Emergency rule he imposed on Rivers State six months ago.
Consequently, the Presidency in a statement on Wednesday asked the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to return to work on Thursday, September 18, alongside the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The president recalled that a bitter power tussle between the governor and 27 lawmakers loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, had crippled the state and tending towards anarchy, necessitating the declaration of the emergency rule.
However, the president had, while lifting the state of emergency in the oil rich state on said: “It therefore gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers State of Nigeria shall end with effect from midnight today.
“The Governor, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, the deputy governor, Her Excellency Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the speaker, Martins Amaewhule, will resume work in their offices from 18 September 2025.”
