Peter Rufai, a former Super Eagles safe hands is dead.
Rufai, who was fondly called Dodomayana, passed away at the age of 61.
The tragic news was confirmed on Thursday in a post by the Nigeria Football Federation on its official X handle.
“Forever in our hearts, Dodo Mayana. We mourn the passing of legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, a giant of Nigerian football and a 1994 AFCON champion,” the post read.“Your legacy lives on between the sticks and beyond. Rest well, Peter Rufai,” the tribute read.
His superlative football career, which took him through popular clubs in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain, spanned over two decades.
He made 65, appearances for the country and played for Nigeria the FIFA World Cup in 1994 and 1998.
Rufai was also in the squad that represented the country in two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and played a prominent role during the most beautiful period of Nigerian football in the 1990s.Nigerian
