The Sokoto State Government has announced its willingness to dialogue with bandits in in a move to promote peace and security in the state.
According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to Gov. Ahmed Aliyu on Security, Col. Ahmed Usman (Retd.), in Sokoto, the government recognised the imperativeness of dialogue to address the protracted insecurity crisis and so would be open negotiations with repentant bandits, who are ready for reconciliation and lay down their srms.
“Many historical conflicts have not ended solely through the use of force, but through meaningful dialogue,” Usman said in the statement.
“Government has reaffirmed its readiness to negotiate with bandits who demonstrate a genuine commitment to surrender and reintegrate peacefully into society.”
He thanked President Bola Tinubu and the military for their efforts to safeguarding the state.
“We are expressing profound appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, the service chiefs, security commanders, and frontline personnel for their unwavering efforts in safeguarding the region.
“Their sacrifices are deeply appreciated. May Allah bless the souls of our fallen heroes and grant comfort to their families.”
Furthermore, Usman noted the importance of trust in the recruitment and deployment processes of the Forest Guards, which the Federal Government is proposing to establish.
According to him, the forest guards should be supervised regular security agencies to ensure accountability and prevent abuses.
”Government’s position reflects a broader strategy aimed at balancing security operations with community engagement and long-term peacebuilding efforts,” he said, adding that there must be an established clear communication between the forest guards and the people to promote understanding and cooperation.
