Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye

Senator Samuel Anyanwu on Friday resumed duties at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, following the Supreme Court’s affirmation that he is the authentic National Secretary of the party.
A five-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, had nullified the December 20, 2024, judgment of the Court of Appeal in Enugu, which had upheld the High Court’s decision, removing Anyanwu and recognising Sunday Udeh-Okoye as his replacement.
Anyanwu, also known as Sam Daddy, thanked God and his supporters across the country as well as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his encouragement and support.
He also called for unity within the party, and urged aggrieved party members to team up with him since PDP remained one family.
However, the leadership of the PDP insisted on Udeh-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary.
Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, in a statement said the Supreme Court ruling does not change the party’s position, reaffirming Udeh-Okoye as the rightful National Secretary in accordance with the party’s constitution, amended in 2017.
According to him, the party’s internal processes had already confirmed Ude-Okoye as secretary, insisting that the apex court’s ruling only reinforced the principle that party leadership decisions are internal affairs.
The party hailed the Supreme Court for upholding the party’s authority over its internal affairs, which it said was a victory for democracy.
