The Supreme Court has on Friday issued an order directing the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly to resume legislative activities.
The apex court in a landmark judgement also upheld the ruling of a Federal High Court, which barred the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and the Accountant-General of the Federation from disbursing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers State.
Amaewhule, alongside 26 other members in his his faction are known loyalists of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and former governor of Rivers State.
The decision is expected to have significant implications for governance in Rivers State The ruling further underscores the deepening political rift within the state’s leadership, characterised by mounting tensions factions within the state’s political structure.
