Tragedy as 30 passengers are burnt to death in Ondo accident

No fewer than 30 commuters were reportedly burnt to death in a fatal auto crash in Ondo State.

The tragic incident occurred at the Onipetesi axis, along the Ore/Lagos Expressway in Odigbo Local Council Area on  Saturday, when two commercial buses had a head-on collision and burst into flames.

Twenty -eight out of the 32 passengers involved in the accident were burnt beyond recognition while two survivors rescued with serious injuries died before getting to the hospital.

Two other passengers are still receiving treatment.

It was gathered that the accident was caused by excessive speeding on the part of the drivers.

Samuel Ibitoye, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident, adding  that a preliminary investigation showed that one of the vehicles drove against traffic.

He urged drivers to exercise caution, ensure proper vehicle maintenance and avoid reckless driving.

The FRSC also advised passengers to speak out against unsafe driving practices, emphasising that road safety is a shared responsibility.
