Another win for Fubara: Court nullifies PDP Rivers State congresses
The protracted political tussle in Rivers State between the state governor, Sim Fubara, and his immediate predecessor and benefactor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, is getting more interesting as Fubara has got yet another win.
The Rivers State High Court has nullified nullifying the disputed Ward, Local Government Area, and State congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which were conducted by the faction led by Nyesom Wike, in 2024.
The implications of the ruling on the the validity of the party’s leadership structure and future elections in the state to question.
Also, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state is similarly embroiled in leadership crisis, following the earlier nullification the party’s
Local Government and State Congresses, which conducted by the Tony Okocha-led caretaker committee in Rivers State, in clear defiance of a court order.
Again, Okocha is a close ally of the FCT minister and his foot soldier in Rivers State.
