The Nigerian government has formally filed for the extradition of Simon Ekpa to the Finnish government.
General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, disclosed on Channels Television that the necessary documentation for Ekpa’s extradition had been submitted to the Government of Finland.
“I’m sure he’s cooling off somewhere,” the CDS said.
“Legal action will be taken accordingly. I don’t want to say too much, but I’m glad he’s been arrested.
“The Federal Government has provided most of the required documentation to the Finnish Government, so I’m confident the right steps will be taken.”
Recall that Ekpa, a pro-Biafra agitator, was arrested by the Finnish authorities
in November 2024, on suspicion of involvement in terror-related activities.
Ekpa has been accused of incitement to violence and financing terrorism.
The Lahti District Court in Finland ordered Ekpa’s remand based on probable cause for public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent in Nigeria.
Ekpa is widely seen as the brain behind the spiralling bloodbath in the South-east through his social media campaigns, promoting violence in the name of agitation for Biafra.
The South-east has been reduced to a war theatre where failure to observe Ekpa’s sit-at-home order is met with brutality and violence, resulting in multiple deaths and near collapse of the region’s economy.
