A Federal High Court sitting in Ekiti on Monday granted human rights activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi, a N50 million bail.

 Babs Olaniyi Kuewumi, the presiding judge, also ruled that Farotimi must provide one surety, who has proof of two years’ tax clearance and a letter of consent from the bank.

Farotimi has been brought into the courtroom by policemen in handcuffs.The case was subsequently adjourned to January 29, 2025.

Farotimi is facing a 12-count charge bordering on cybercrime and defamation against Afe Babalola, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), in an online interview.

The case, with suit number FHC/AD/CR/104/2024, was filed by the Inspector-General of Police.

He had been arrested to face trial over the allegation based on a petition written by Babalola.

Farotimi was on Wednesday arraigned on a 16-count charge at the Ekiti Magistrate Court, Which remanded him in prison custody pending the hearing of his bail application on December 10.
