The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has confirmed that it has finally arrested and detained Yahaya Bello, the immediate past governor of Kogi State.

Bello’s arrest followed several months of evading arrest and refusal to honour invitations by the anti-graft agency over alleged misappropriation of funds.

The EFCC had on April 18, 2024, declared Bello wanted in connection with an N80.2 billion money laundering charged after he consistently failed to appear before it for questioning although he made a controversial visit to the EFCC office a couple of months back.

The former governor presented himself at the headquarters of the EFCC in Abuja on Tuesday, accompanied by his lawyers.

Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity disclosed that Tuesday’s appearance at the EFCC office, Bello was arrested by the Commission’s Chief Security Officer.
“It is true that we have him in our custody. The operatives of the Commission arrested him,” Oyewale confirmed.Bello may have sensed that the game was up after the Supreme Court trashed a suit filed by some state governments led by Kogi State, to challenge the constitutionality of the creation of EFCC.
