NNPCL: Melee Kyari must go protests rock Abuja

Led by some Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, the protesters, comprising mainly  youths stormed the NNPCL towers in Abuja, demanding that Kyari must resign.

They accused him of incompetence, citing rising prices of fuel, protracted fuel scarcity and long queues, resulting in more economic hardship for Nigerians.

The protesters, who wielded various placards, beating different inscriptions, such as “we demand the immediate resignation of Kyari”, saying he his leadership had failed Nigerians.

Abdullahi Bilal, one of the conveners,  who addressed journalists called for an end to “fraudulent fuel subsidy” and also claimed that adulterated fuel was being imported into the country.

He said: “Today, we call for the immediate resignation of Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

“We demand the complete removal of the fraudulent fuel subsidy regime that has only served to enrich a select few. Full deregulation is necessary to introduce transparency, competition and fairness to our oil sector.

“We also demand an end to the importation of adulterated fuel into Nigeria. This harmful practice must stop immediately and those responsible must be held accountable for the damage caused to our vehicles, businesses, and livelihoods.”
